A most unconventional childhood

I really enjoyed this book. It recounts a round-the- world trip that Nicky (Martinique) Stilwell, who came to talk at Marilyn's bookclub evening last year, undertook with her parents and twin brother in a small yacht. Having no experience, and even less money, the family took off in Vingila - and survived the ordeal. I loved reading about their free, yet confined life, their relationships and personality clashes, their adventures and friends, ups and downs - all peppered with Nicky's often very funny observations. She focuses a lot on her relationship with her almost-abusive father, and probably treats him far too kindly in the book as he sounds distinctly odd. I thought it was well written and well edited too. A five star book. It would have been great to have had more illustrations, but apparently the publishers (Penguin) LOST a whole lot of the original ones Nicky submitted.
