Christmas in the Annex

For our Christmas dinner 2011, Woodlands Bookclub ventured into Kalk Bay and annexed a corner of The Annex, which is attached to Kalk Bay Books, one of Cape Town's wonderful bookshops. Our gracious host decided it was time to play pass the parcel - not that we really needed an ice-breaker as we were all ready to relax and enjoy the Annex, especially in anticipation of what was coming next ...a mouthwatering menu - negotiated skillfully by Jane and Alison. The evening just flew - Opening parcels and Christmas cards, and finding exciting little gifts,
Cracking crackers, and sharing memories and treasured objects like Joan's Buddha,
and Marilyn's card of shrine-stamps from her pilgrimage along the Camino in Spain,
and Bev's mum's old enamel tea-pot.
The waiters were patient, and the service very friendly. The old building which houses the Annex is most characterful and relaxing and the food was excellent.
By the time we got down to business, we were all rather well fed. Here is Sue trying to maintain order - and Joan.
Joan, Sue K, Sue W, Heather, Bev, Marilyn and Alison. (Terry was also around somewhere!)
So thanks Jane for organizing such a lovely evening! Happy Christmas Woodlanders and here's to a fantastic 2012.(And apologies for the late blog!)
