Back from Paraguay

For those of you who missed Sue's bookclub, you missed a really enjoyable evening. And we missed you all too - until it came time to choose our books and we were glad there were only 6 of us!
We started off with some good wine while we chatted around an interesting - if irritating - topic of conversation: the recent claim by VS Naipaul that women writers are vastly inferior to male writers, especially himself. Once we had established that he was a sad idiot, we got down to some more serious discussion about Paraguay where Sue and Dave have just been canoeing down the Paraguay River and doing a spot of bird-watching. Sue even admitted to having become a twitcher. Then Bev told us about her birding course with an ex-headmistress. I haven''t laughed so much in ages!
Then onto the books - a truly mouth-watering new selection from Sue - followed by a feast of homemade onion tart, pumpkin pie and Florentines.
Thank you Sue.

Idiotic remark of the evening: "What was George Elliot's nom de plume again?" What was I thinking? Maybe it was that fiery red wine.
At our bookclub the books get the comfiest seat.
