A night at the races

Thank you Sue for a wonderfully interesting talk about Sparkling Gem and other racehorses, and what sparked your interest in them. I particularly love the story of you learning to ride on a donkey and wonder if you have any photos of yourself and this donkey for the blog?
Here is Sparkling Gem, winning a race at Kenilworth. (Off the Internet.)

Sue was talking about naming racehorses, and I see on the site that Sparkling Gem is the fourth foal and third winner out of Crystal Chalice, a daughter of American-bred mare Flying Snowdrop. A seven-time winner of the Gr.1 Stuttafords Fillies Guineas and runner-up in the Gr.1 SA Fillies Guineas, she is a half-sister to Gr.1-placed Magic Gleam (Danzig) who produced American-bred import Flying Magic (Hansel), the dam of South African stakes winner Cast A Spell (Rambo Dancer).

Phew, in retrospect, we should have opened a bottle of sparkling wine!
